The Company of Master Jewellers Code of Conduct for Events

Purpose

The CMJ is dedicated to fostering positive and enjoyable experiences for all participants in our events. The purpose of this Code of Conduct is to establish a secure, respectful, and inclusive environment for everyone involved in our events.

Scope

This Code of Conduct applies to all individuals participating in any aspect of our events, including physical and virtual gatherings.

Key Principles

We aim to create an environment where everyone feels welcomed, valued, and safe, free from harassment, bullying, humiliation, pressure, intimidation, or injury. All participants are expected to act professionally and exhibit respect in person at the event and in any interactions before or after.

Unacceptable Behaviours

Our events have a zero-tolerance policy with regards to behaviour or language that may be perceived or deemed as harassment, discriminatory, bullying in nature, offensive, constituting physical or verbal abuse, or any form of inappropriate conduct. Examples include sexist, racist, or exclusionary comments, sustained interruptions, unwanted physical contact, offensive comments related to various attributes, sharing inappropriate content, and belittling or insulting others. Our events are business events and attendees are expected to behave in a professional manner.

Duty of Care

All attendees have a responsibility to ensure their safety and that of others. This includes consuming alcohol responsibly at in-person events. Drug or alcohol misuse is strictly prohibited, and violators will be immediately ejected from the venue, with the possibility of police involvement.

Reporting an Incident

Attendees are requested to report any inappropriate behaviour or concerns regarding their welfare or the welfare of others to a member of the CMJ events team. This can be done either during or after the event and will be treated confidentially. Detailed information about the incident, including the perpetrator's description, behaviour, time and place, witnesses, and any relevant details, should be provided. Anyone who is made to feel uncomfortable at a CMJ event should raise this as a matter of urgency either with the venue staff, or with any member of the CMJ event team.

Possible Outcomes

Our response to reported incidents may include a confidential full investigation addressing the issue with the person, this could result in one of the following sanctions:

  • issuing a warning

  • expulsion from the event

  • depending on the nature of the incident, involving the police

  • preventing the person from attending future events

  • reporting the incident to the person’s employer if appropriate

During the event itself, anyone found to be behaving inappropriately may be asked to leave by venue security, and a subsequent investigation will take place dependent on who the person is/works for. If CMJ employees have any concerns, please refer to the CMJ Employee Handbook.

Minors at Events

As a general rule, individuals under 18 years of age are not permitted to attend CMJ events without prior notice. Should you wish to request the attendance of a minor at a CMJ event, please contact the events team in good time in advance of the event. If permitted, a H&S document will need to be signed by the responsible adult on arrival to the event.

Use of media at CMJ events

Our events will be photographed and filmed. Photographs and videography will be shared on the event website and may be used in promotional marketing, social media, and printed collateral. By attending the event you are consenting to being featured in this content.

If you wish to avoid being photographed, please remove yourself from any group photograph scenarios and make yourself known to the photographer in the room. If you notice any imagery online in which you feature, you may email the event manager after the event and request the removal of the image. Requests will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis.

Trade Event use of Social Media

Please note that in the event halls there is to be no live streaming, face time, video calling.  This is deemed to be a security risk, and you will be asked to desist by our security team or CMJ staff. Photography of product on stands can only be done with the permission of the relevant supplier.

We ask that you do not post anything about the Trade Event on any social media platforms, including naming/tagging the location, using event hashtags and posting photos from the show.

You can post about the event on social media from the day following the close of the event, but for security reasons, please still refrain from mentioning the location or exact dates.

Summary

We strive to create a safe, inclusive environment at our events, relying on the cooperation of all participants. In case of harassment, this Code of Conduct provides guidance and a mechanism for the CMJ events management team to address the situation promptly. Reporting misconduct is confidential, with no repercussions for the reporter.

We encourage anyone witnessing or experiencing inappropriate behaviour to report it in good faith.

By registering for or attending a CMJ event, you agree to comply with this Code of Conduct.
